An Evening with the Governors
Join SOCA and the California State Historic Governor's Mansion Foundation for an evening of history, dining and entertainment on the grounds of the historic Governor's Mansion! Enjoy drinks and dining around the pool built for Governor Edmund G. Brown, Sr., and explore the historic mansion, including its previously off-limits third floor. Tours and interpretive displays will explain the legacy of the Governor's Mansion, constructed in 1877 for Albert Gallatin, and the preservation technologies being used to rediscover the building's architectural secrets and restore it to active use. Enjoy appetizers by Plates Catering and jazz by the Doug Pauly Trio around the recently-restored swimming pool constructed for Governor Earl Warren after the tour. Historian Paul Ivazes will also speak on "How Gas Lighting Changed America."
The purpose of this event is to raise funds to allow the Governor's Mansion to remain open to the public and operational during its transition from operation by California State Parks to operation by the California Historic Governor's Mansion Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit.
Sacramento Old City Association is celebrating its 40th year with a party to recognize the accomplishments of SOCA members since our founding in 1972, while simultaneously continuing that mission by raising money to continue the mission of one of the city's most enduring architectural landmarks.
(Note: The third floor of the Governor's Mansion is not wheelchair-accessible.)
