La Llorona - The Weeping Woman
Fresh from it's successful New York Stage debut, comes this award winning musical drama/operetta - LA LLORONA by Hector Armienta. Like Sondheim's classic Sweeney Todd, composer /playwright Hector Armienta has created a work that blends musical theater and opera together to tell one of Latin America's most heartbreaking and frightening stories of LOVE, BETRAYAL, and VENGEANCE. "La Llorona is a superb, exciting musical...." "Armienta's music is colorful and highly expressive" - The Monterey Herald "La Llorona captures the spirit of Mexico" Mostly sung in English, the story is set in late 19th century Mexico: A young Xochil Indian girl falls desperately in love with a man of Spanish lineage, and the great Xochil river has never forgiven her. Twenty years later she is married, and now the river will take its revenge upon her. Her husband will betray her, she will go mad, and the river will torment her until she sacrifices her only child, Sara. She will forever weep, and each time someone calls out her name, she is forced to relive her tragedy once again. Don't miss this opportunity to see La Llorona before it returns to New York for its off Broadway production in 2014. Special appearance by members of San Jose's premiere Aztec dance company Calpulli Tonalehqueh.
