Peer Support Specialist Training
This 40 hour training will cover listening skills, helper principles, client rights, cultural considerations, how to ask open ended questions, stages of recovery, problem solving, confidentiality, boundaries and dissatisfaction as an avenue for change. This training is required to become a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS). It is based on the recovery philosophy and teaches peers (consumers of mental health or substance use/addiction services) how to support other peers either as a volunteer or paid employee. Peers must become certified to qualify for employment as a PSS. Completion of this training does not guarantee certification or employment.
Please be advised... Minimum Qualification-Registrant must be an openly disclosed individual with either a mental illness or substance use disorder to qualify for this training.
