Tri-Linga and Khonsay present Father's Day, Mother Tongue
An epic in 15-minutes, a poem on film, a celebration of language composed in 50 different endangered/minority/treasure languages, "Khonsay: Poem of Many Tongues" is a tribute and call for linguistic diversity at a time when languages are vanishing at a terrifying rate -- by 2050, half the languages existing now will be gone unless we heed "Khonsay"'s message: to pick up these languages with care, as the Boro Indian word means, because they are scarce and rare.
Join two poets from the film, Grace Baldisseri from the Philippines who writes in Ibanang, Tagalog and English, and Vaimoana Litia Makakaufaki Niumeitolu in Tongan and English, as well as the crew who spent eight years on this labor of love for languages lost and found: Bob Holman of Bowery Poetry, Director, Steve Zeitlin of City Lore, Producer, and Daniel Kaufman, Director of the Endangered Language Alliance, for poetry, screening, discussion and party. Pick up a DVD, too, edited by Lee Eaton, designed by John Priest.
