Excerpts from Industrial Ballet & Splurge Land
Founded in 2010, Seattle based dance company Kate Wallich + The YC presents excerpts from their two most recent evening length productions at CPR before heading to Jacobs Pillow Inside/Out Festival. Industrial Ballet, commissioned and produced by Velocity Dance Center in 2016, has been described as Black Swan meets Nine Inch Nails by the Seattle Times and also noted as one of Wallichs best works yet by City Arts Magazine. Wallichs first large scale evening, Splurge Land, commissioned and produced by On the Boards in 2015, was described as a precarious mix of pop culture, post-post modern dance tropes, constrained emotions and club moves. The showing features company dancers Matt Drews (Saint Genet, tEETH), David Harvey (Alonzo King Lines), Thomas House (Abraham in Motion) and Lavinia Vago (Rubberbandance) with music composed by Seattle based producer Johnny Goss (Cock & Swan, La Luz, Lonesome Shack). Named one of Dance Magazines 25 to Watch in 2015, Wallich has been described as one of the most important and original artists to emerge from the citys vibrant dance scene in the past few years Seattle Magazine
