The Marcin Wasilewski Trio is an internationally recognized Polish jazz trio that has performed together as a band for over 22 years. Its a distinctive, yet accessible group that strikes a fine balance of tradition and contemporary influences, demonstrating the global language and continuity of jazz music with nuance. BACKGROUND
The Marcin Wasilewski Trio is one of the brightest stars of the Polish jazz scene, recognized for their unique talent in blending the traditional and contemporary. The Marcin Wasilewski Trio is one of the most acclaimed of its generation. They have garnered recognition in their native Poland and internationally.
The Trio came on the jazz scene in 1994, first as Simple Acoustic Trio. From 2008 they've toured internationally as The Marcin Wasilewski Trio. As members of The Tomasz Stanko Quartet for 15 years, they are notably Stanko's longest collaborating sidemen, recording on numerous ECM releases both with Stanko and as a Trio, the following titles: Trio (2003), January (2007), Faithful (2011), Spark Of Life (2014).
In addition to their outstanding recordings with Tomasz Stanko for the prestigious ECM label, The Marcin Wasilewski Trio has also worked with masters of improvisation such as Jan Garbarek, Gianluigi Trovesi, John Surman, Louis Sclavis, Arthur Blythe, Joe Lovano, Bernt Rosengren, Dino Saluzzi, Bobo Stenson, Anders Jormin, Manu Katche and Jon Christensen, just to name a few.
2009 Trio leader, Marcin Wasilewski (piano), was nominated for the Rotterdam North Sea Jazz Festival's "Paul Acket Award" by an international committee of jazz critics. In 2005 and 2011 Wasilewski was listed as a rising piano star in the Down Beat Annual Critics Poll.
