SAM SELLIMAN --------------------------------------- "Ok but where are you really from because your English is VERY good!"
Kuala Lumpur International Airport. "One more flight and you'll be there", Sam kept telling herself. She is exhausted. She spots a Hispanic woman at baggage claims struggling to speak English to the people around her. Even if Sam wanted to help, her Spanish is below elementary level and besides, all Sam wants to do is grab her luggage and go. Then her conscience kicks in. What if this was her mother? Or father? Sam makes a deal with herself. If the lady looks at her, she MUST help, elementary Spanish or not. "Please don't look this way. Don't make eye contact. Where the heck is my luggage?! Don't make eye conta . . ."
GINO ROSE --------------------------------------- "A Heart Too Strong To Die"
Gino is on his back, the catheter still in his artery, his heart full of hope. Thats a metaphor. His actual heart, he finds out, isn't getting enough blood (your left coronary artery is a thread. You need Open Heart surgery.) And Open Heart is no metaphor. In fact, its a CABG (pronounced cabbage), a Coronary Artery By-Pass Graft, one of the most complex and invasive surgeries possible. Gino faces a question of personal value: does his heart deserve to be saved?
BRUCE PACHTMAN --------------------------------------- "So, when did you start speaking in the 3rd person?"
Why can't Bruce say "You're welcome." A man just said "Thank You" to him. Bruce knows the proper response is "You're welcome". Could it be that Bruce is in a bad mood? Or that he's distracted? Or is it that he's trying his darnedest to say "You're welcome", he really is, but because the man who said "Thank you" is one of the biggest rock legends in history, Bruce is not able to talk? Why would one of the biggest rock legends in history be thanking Bruce anyway?
KELLY RAFFERTY ---------------------------------------- "Fictional Body Parts"
Kelly would rather be at home under a pile of blankets, criticizing her disgusting body in peace. Instead, she showed up for work. At the gym. With all the mirrors. And the skinny housewives. Is this the day the personal training clients finally ask why she got so fat? Is this the day they finally turn on her?
