3rd Annual 6x10 Play Festival
Once again, the festival will present six ten minute plays that have been solicited from area playwrights who are looking for a venue to perform their work. Over 50 scripts were submitted for entry for the 2nd festival, and the resulting 6 plays performed were an amazing array of drama and comedy that awed and entertained sold out audiences. Come witness the magic that happens when the best area playwrights meet the best local talent who, with little time, budget and set attempt to realize their artists' vision.
A ROSE by any other name by Marion Kellum
Scene: A small park complete with park bench and small cafe nearby. SHE sits on the bench waiting and wearing a rose. HE sees her there, starts to pass by, but changes his mind and sits down to talk to her. What starts out as a somewhat prickly, uncomfortable exchange turns into something else for both of them. No ages specified for the two characters.
WOOD by Alfonso Ramirez
Scene: A hallway with an apartment door. BEN, a young man on his wedding day, lives in the apartment. His mother, BARBARA, is there with him. GERRY, his father, comes to the door out of a rain storm carrying a gift. He knocks and wants to see his son who will not open the door. The reason becomes apparent as the story unfolds. BEN and GERRY are the primary characters, BARBARA is a small role with just a few lines.
No ages listed, but the scenario dictates the relationship and the possible age ranges. Two Drunken Chicks at the Zoo by Lindsey Elderkin
Scene: Two friends are at the zoo and have had quite a lot to drink. While there, they encounter a goat and another animal that is quite combative. Hilarity follows. The characters are two women in their twenties, MERCEDES and RACHEL. There are no actual animals seen in the show, only heard.
At Once Dispatch'd by Jordan Chaddock -
Scene: Auditions for a production of "Hamlet". The Director, REGAN, is 30+ and very intent on what she wants for the show. VIOLA is the director's assistant and age 25-35. The two other characters are Antonio and Julius, both aged 30-50 and both are auditioning for the show. There is a character in Hamlet that Regan REALLY wants to find and is having major difficulty in doing so.
Secrets of the Heart by Louis Janeira
Scene: The home of Tracy and Drake. Tracy is a woman in her mid-30's and Drake is a man also in his mid-30's. Drake is bringing his father and mother to meet Tracy. The father, MILTON, late 50's, a VERY difficult man and used to being in charge. His wife, Maritza, also in her late 50's, is a woman who works at being a peacemaker. Everyone in this play has a secret...everyone!
Fearful Symmetry by Heather Chaddock
Scene: The home of GEMMA and ART, both in their 20's or early 30's, and their infant daughter ZOOEY. New parents and the post-partum "madness" that sometimes occurs when there is a new baby in the house. Gemma is convinced that there is something very scary in the house that is coming for the baby.
