Jimmy Do Right and the Pop Go Boom
In the fall of 2012, Portland piano-man Jimmy Dority assembled a 21-piece orchestra of Maines finest players to record a dozen original songs in front of a live audience at Mayo St Arts. The songs themselves recall the wall-of-sound" recordings of 60s paragons like Phil Spector, Brian Wilson, and Serge Gainsbourg, with orchestrations that run the gamut from Staxx and Motown-inspired R&B to French chanson.
At long last, the full-length album Jimmy Do Right and the Pop Go Boom is being released and the bands getting back together to celebrate with a one-time-only performance of the album, end-to-end.

Opening the evening will be the Maine debut of Woodpainting, the 'infectious pop drama' or 'narrative-based bubblegum soap-opera' which through multi-media obfuscation conceals the story of a great man overcome by late-onset teenage angst. Starring Akiva Zamcheck (DTROTBOT, The Milkman's Union) as 'The Knight,' Jerusha Robinson (South China, Plains) as 'Death,' Peter McLaughlin (Family Planning, Yairms) as 'The Strumpet,' and featuring videographer Stephanie Elizabeth Gould on laptop, film, and prisms.
