MASTER CLASS: $10 ticket price. Limited scholarship tickets available on the honor system, please contact mjackson@keepstpetelit.org.
Do you aspire to unleash your inner Dave Barry; appear in a Chicken Soup for the Soul book; or get a byline for a NYT Modern Love column? Do you think your slice-of-life stories would make readers laugh, cry, or nod in recognition? If you want to write or have written personal essays, this class will help you discover the markets that are looking for your voice. We will cover the obvious markets; the not-so-obvious markets and the mistakes that will land your submission in the thanks, but no thanks pile.
About the Instructor: Mary Ellen Collins is a freelance writer for clients including businesses, nonprofit organizations and national and international trade magazines. She wrote a first-person column for The Arizona Republic from 1999-2002; and a humor column for Angies List Magazine from 2005 to 2011. Her essays have also been published in Notre Dame Magazine, The Christian Science Monitor, The St. Petersburg Times, The Writer, Outdoor Life, and The Chronicle of Higher Education.
