This year marks the 50th anniversary of UPROSE, making UPROSE the oldest Latino community based organization in Brooklyn. Our organization founded during the civil rights movement has survived half a century. We are is still here, still building, still fighting, still changing everything we touch and we want you to be part of the celebration.
We are a small organization, but because we are driven by our values and our community we are a mighty one. UPROSE was on the frontline of the largest climate march in history, has stopped power plants from endangering the health of Sunset Park and has so much farther to go. Fifty years is huge for an organization that has refused to compromise our ideals.
Our 50th anniversary ball is not only our chance to reflect on the past 50 years of struggle but the opportunity to build the foundation for another 50 years of fighting for climate, environmental and social justice. The next half century will be a challenging one. Climate change is moving faster than many have expected and devastating low income communities of color as it does. In the years that are coming New York City, and the world, needs tough organizations that have the roots to weather the storm. Organizations like UPROSE.
