The Rooting Place by Betty Chaney - Hapeville
While external factors, like racism, poverty, and injustice often tear African American families apart, sometimes factors within the family structure are even more divisive and crippling. Effie Raye returns to rural Mississippi after a thirty year absence. She brings with her a daughter and her newly born grandchild to introduce them to her rooting place. The visit is everything she expected and more as family secrets unfold.
