This performance is an enacted remembering of the source of EX, a performance piece originally produced in October 2014 for the California Building in NE Minneapolis. Devised with the collaboration of Annie Enneking, Megan Mayer, and Billy Mullaney, EX developed out of a year in which Campbell lost his mother to Alzheimers and his sister to cancer.
This version is being recalled for performance in the new shared art space, Fresh Oysters Performance Research. The original piece explored themes of family, memory, and loss. This piece is a remembering of those memories. A process that, part theater and part dance, will repeat the formal structure deriving from Radioheads song "Codex." The original performance substituted a theatrical image for each musical image, converting a 445 sonic experience into a 60 minute live performance.
This recollection will have its errors and gaps, misremembered and heightened moments, reproducing the neurological process of human memory. Like a rediscovered artifact, the dust both hides and becomes a part of the remembered image. Only the memory is recalled, not the event itself.
