Kirk Feather, Chris Taylor, Paul Del Nero and Steve Silverstein
Sandywoods is starting off their SANDYWOODS JAZZ SERIES with a performance by these four amazing jazz performers:
Kirk Feather is a professional woodwind player and private instructor who has performed in dozens of American states and in many countries around the world. Returning to his home state of Rhode Island in 1986 Kirk performed with the Tony Giorgianni Orchestra, Dan Moretti, Yvonne Monnett, Kim Marcoux, Debra Mann, John Allmark, Kent Hewitt, and was the saxophonist for the Mac Chrupcala Orchestra for nearly 17 years. Heperformed in the dance band aboard the Queen Elizabeth II for its 2002/2003 World Cruise.
Chris Taylor moved to the Boston area in August 1991. Taylor has since performed and recorded with The Matt Gordy Group, The Either/Orchestra, The John Allmark Orchestra with Clay Osborne, Leonard Hochman and Eula Lawrence, the Phil Person Sextet, and twice with the Rich Greenblatt Vibes Quintet. In addition, he has performed regularly in Cape Cod with local greats Lou Columbo and Dick Johnson. Since February of 1997, his own trio has been resident band at Prudentials Top of the Hub restaurant in Boston. Other current performances, aside from those with his own trio, will find Taylor in solo to big band settings in Boston, Rhode Island and Cape Cod areas.
Paul Del Nero has performed on acoustic and electric bass, both in big bands and small groups. He has played many national and international jazz festivals, clubs, and shows. He has toured with the famous Artie Shaw Orchestra under the direction of Dick Johnson, with several Broadway shows and has recorded on the Concord, Candid and GM labels. Widely known for his talent and style, he is a former artist-in-residence at the Banff Centre and a USIA grant recipient. For over 25 years, Paul has been a regular choice of blues legend, Mose Allison, for his performances in the Northeast US.
Steve Silverstein has been playing drums for more than 50 years and has been playing professionally for over 40. From 13 - 15 years old, he attended the Berklee College of Music for private drum instruction, studying under the guidance of Keith Copeland. While a student at the University of Massachusetts - Amherst, he played in jazz ensembles led by Max Roach, Archie Shepp and Vishnu Wood. Over the years he has performed both in the US and abroad with jazz artists Harry Allen, Carmen Bradford, Bunky Green, Bobby Watson, Joshua Breakstone, Ben Tucker, Matt Savage, the Artie Shaw Orchestra, as well as various members from the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra . He has performed in the Far East, Central America, and the Carribean, and is a Bosphorus Cymbals Artist.
