Hallifax & Jeffrey with Andy Canepa and Adaiha MacAdam-Somer: Seasons, Monthes, Fancies and Dances by Christopher Simpson and Matthew Locke
In a period when music in England went underground (the puritans were in charge, there was no church music or court music) chamber music was kept alive by wealthy catholic families who housed the two greatest composers of the time, Matthew Locke and Christopher Simpson. These two prolific masters produced gorgeous and innovative music for their circle of admirers, and since they were both virtuoso viol players, the music counts among the finest of all 17th century chamber music.
