Vallejo Symphony Concert III
Haydn Symphony No. 8 in G major, 'Evening' Mozart Violin Concerto No. 2 Featuring Livia Sohn Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 6 in B minor Marc Taddei, conducting
The end of the day is as delightful and inspiring as daytime in this final program. Haydn's Symphony No. 8, 'Evening,' makes use of a cheeky theme from a French comic opera piece, and treats us to an orchestral storm, complete with thunder and lightning. Kay Stern, Concertmaster of San Francisco Opera, joins VSO for Kabalevsky's exuberant Violin Concerto. And, finally, Tchaikovsky's complex and passionate Symphony No. 6 will lull you with beautiful melodies, excite you with staggering inventiveness, and move you with its extraordinary ending.
Ms. Sohn's 2016-17 season includes performances in San Francisco, New York, Rome, and Venice, and a debut appearance on the Music Worcester series in Massachusetts. It will conclude with a performance and recording of the monumental Max Reger Concerto, in Holland with the Gruppo Montebello, and to be released on the Etcetera Records label.
Livia has been a guest soloist in North America with the symphony orchestras of Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Seattle, Milwaukee, Edmonton, Rochester, Austin, Phoenix, New York Chamber Symphony, Boston Pops, and Brooklyn Philharmonic San Antonio, Oregon, Dayton, Winston-Salem, Hartford, Cheyenne, Quad Cities, Green Bay, Boca Raton, Louisville, I Musici de Montreal, and Aspen Festival Orchestra, among others.
