Bird.and other work
Bird is a new audience immersive work by choreographer Thomas Vacanti and new media artist Jenny Vogel. Using Hans Christian Andersens short story The Emperor and the Nightingale as a springboard, the audience is invited to explore the human encounter with technology and be taken on a journey through the predictable vs. the unknown: "with a real nightingale one can never calculate what is coming, but in this artificial bird everything is settled."
Also on the program is Interludium, a delicate and tensile duet based on the poetry of Federico Garcia Lorca.
Vacanti Ballets, a Massachusetts based dance company, produces and performs elaborate dance works created by artistic director Tom Vacanti. Experimenting with the relationship between audience and performer, he is fascinated with small gestural work and how the dancer can do less, not more in performance- inviting the audience to closely observe the fine details of the movement in close proximity to the action. Vacanti Ballets makes exceptional dance theatre. Visually stunning, arresting, provocative and humorous. The work is diverse in form and content encompassing productions for the stage, site specific, new-media and installation work.
