An Evening of Fado with RAMANA VIEIRA, FATIMA SANTOS & JOSE LUIS IGLESIAS
No one in the United States is doing more to breathe new life into Fado, -SF Chronicle

Described as a rising star in World music, Ramana Vieira is a contemporary singer of  traditional Portuguese Fado. On her latest album, Fado da Vida, Vieira continues to infuse this centuries-old style with a uniquely modern sensibility and instrumentation. Recognized by the New York Times as being at the forefront of a Fado resurgence, Vieira expands the basic configuration of 12-string guitar and vocals into performances that include cello, violin, bass, accordion, and drums. Shes shared the stage with Grammy-nominated Fadista Mariza, and performed for the Grammys 50th Awards Special, MusiCares Benefit, honoring Aretha Franklin

A native of Albergaria-A-Velha in northern Portugal, Fátima Santos was attracted by the operatic vocal technique used by Coimbra Fado singers, and inspired by great composers such as José Afonso, Luiz Goes, and Fernando Rolim.  Performing many types of Portuguese vocal music, she is one of the leading exponents of the Coimbra Fado style.  Fátima won the International Portuguese Music Awards Song the Year award in 2014.
Born in Coimbra, Portugal, and a master of the Portuguese Guitar, José Luis Iglésias has worked with such notable Fado composers and performers as Fausto, Vitorino, Pedro Barroso, and Teresa Silva Carvalho. Upon coming to the US, Mr. Iglésias studied music at Rutgers University and later joined the faculty at Caldwell University. Committed to the musical education of youth, Mr. Iglésias has founded a number of music schools on the East Coast and also enjoys a career as a composer, arranger and artistic director.
Performing with Ramana, Fatima & Julio will be Ela Polak on violin, Patrick Fahey on mandolin, Alberto Ramirez on Bass and Steve Nelson on percussion.
