*************** NEW YORK SHAKESPEARE EXCHANGE offers innovative theatrical programming that explores what happens when contemporary culture is infused with Shakespearean poetry and themes in unexpected ways. We provide fresh points of entry to the work so that modern audiences will be exposed to the intrinsic power of Shakespeare. Our goal is to encourage an enthusiastic appreciation of classical theater and to expand the reach of the art form within new and existing audiences.
*************** IMMIGRATION EQUALITY is the leading LGBTQ immigrant rights organization in the country. Each year, we provide advice and legal services to more than 4,000 LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrants seeking refuge, fair treatment, and freedom in the United States. We work every day to ensure the safety and well-being of our community. Our work is truly lifesaving because there are nearly 80 countries around the world where it is a crime to be LGBTQ, with consequences up to and including the death penalty. For this reason, we fight to obtain asylum in the United States for LGBTQ and HIV-positive refugees. Every year, our caseload grows. Nevertheless, we maintain a remarkable 99% win rate. Through our Direct Legal Services Program, we focus on serving the most vulnerable in the LGBTQ community young people, those suffering with trauma-related mental or physical health conditions, or those struggling with homelessness and isolation. In fact, all of our clients live at or below the poverty line, most are living with PTSD, anxiety, or depression, and 30% are living with HIV.
