The MMF Opera Institutes Studio program presents this rarely performed opera of dramatic depth. Mese Mariano, or Marys Month is the tragic story of a mothers love, guilt and loss. In this brief and heartrending opera, a woman visits an orphanage to see her child, wracked with guilt at having abandoned him. Considered a lyric sketch with a running time of only 35 minutes and sung in a Neapolitan dialect, it was written and premiered at the early turn of the century.
