The Golem (1920): Live film soundtrack - Noize Choir + The Old Police House
** Please note: This screening will take place in the Great Hall of Newcastle Castle Keep, which is unfortunately inaccessible to wheelchair users. There is no heating inside the Great Hall, so please wear suitable clothing. **
Have you ever seen a silent film accompanied by a choir? Newcastle Castle present a rarely seen silent masterpiece accompanied by a live performance from two groups who've composed music especially: the legendary Noize Choir and Gatesheads The Old Police House.
This 1920 horror classic is a retelling of the Golem legend in which a rabbi in 16th-century Prague sculpts a massive monster from clay to defend the Jewish community. The forerunner of many a cinematic Frankensteins monster, director Paul Wegeners creature inhabits a world of majestic scale and haunting German Expressionism.
Noize Choir, a collective of noise enthusiasts who sing and make noises, will perform from the upper galleries in the Great Hall of the Castle Keep. Joining them will be turntable improviser Mariam Rezaei and tape/voice mangler Adam Denton from The Old Police House in Gateshead.
