For its 99th show, the last of the season before summer hiatus, Bluebird North presents four acclaimed Canadian songwriters who, between them, have decades of performing experience across Canada, the US, Europe, Asia and Australia. If youre thinking this will make for some great road stories to go with the music, you are correct! But thats the icing on the cake; the main attraction is Bluebird Norths intimate acoustic format, and the fascinating, inspiring mix of sounds, styles and musical craftsmanship that will be created on stage for this one night only. With different artists showcased each time, every Bluebird North show is unique and compelling; dont miss out!
Bluebird North: Where Writers Sing and Tell is produced by Shari Ulrich for the Songwriters Association of Canada. The SAC gratefully acknowledges the support of the SOCAN Foundation. For more information on the SACs mandate, activities and membership programs, please visit www.songwriters.ca.

******* BACKGROUND: Bluebird North, at 21 years the longest-running song circle in Vancouver, is a bi-monthly showcase that features three or four (different for each show) talented singer/songwriters of widely varying styles, on stage together, taking turns playing their own original songs and sharing stories with one another and the audience about their work. The Bluebird North series has toured nationally, and has established itself in several other Canadian cities, but Vancouver remains its longest-standing host city. www.songwriters.ca
ABOUT THE PERFORMERS May 25, 2016
A roots balladeer with a rare personal warmth, Edmonton's Scott Cook has managed to distill the stories collected over nine years of near-incessant touring across Canada, the USA, Europe, Asia, and Australia into straight-talking, keenly observant verse. His 2013 release One More Time Around was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award, and its opening track "Pass It Along" won the Folk and Acoustic category in the 2013 UK Songwriting Contest, with UK magazine Maverick Country naming him "one of Canada's most inspiring and imaginative storytellers". He released his fifth DIY album, Go Long, in the summer of 2015, embarking on another around-the-world tour in support of it. All the hard miles notwithstanding, he still believes that songs can change your life, and your life can change the world. www.scottcook.net
Murray McLauchlan was born in Scotland, and immigrated to Canada with his family when he was five years old. At 17, he began playing at coffeehouses in Toronto's Yorkville area and later attended Central Tech as an art student before deciding to become a full-time musician. McLauchlan has had success in the pop, adult contemporary, country, and folk-music fields, with such hits as the Juno Award-winning "Farmer's Song", "Child's Song," Down At the Henry Moore, "Hurricane of Change", "Do You Dream of Being Somebody", and "Whispering Rain". He hosted the highly rated CBC Radio program Swinging On a Star from 1989 to 1994. In 2004 he helped form the group Lunch At Allen's with Marc Jordan, Cindy Church and Ian Thomas. The quartet has released three albums: Lunch at Allens, Catch the Moon, and More Lunch at Allens. McLauchlan has won 10 Juno Awards, has been nominated for a total of 23 and is a Member of the Order of Canada.
Winner of the 2015 BC Musician Magazine songwriting competition and full-time road dog, Winona Wilde has been slinging her boisterous brand of country-folk Canadiana everywhere from rowdy bars to hushed chapels all over Canada, the US & Europe. The 2016 season will be her fourth as a full-time performing artist, following a number of mysterious past lives (lawyer, dishwasher, opera singer). Prince Georges CFUR Radio describes her music as follows: Winona Wildes music skips down the gloomy city streets, thunders down the lonely highways, and stands out in a tutu, apparently oblivious to the bitter Canadian cold. If you're wondering where the spirit of the Canadian Songsmith has gone, Winona Wilde reminds you it has never left. With a velvety sweet voice, disarmingly genuine personality and slightly bizarre sense of humour, she promises to be two parts funny and one part sad. www.winonawilde.com
Shari Ulrich grew up in the San Francisco Bay area, and immigrated to Canada in 1972. Shortly after, she discovered music and joined up with Joe Mock & Rick Scott to form the quirky Pied Pumkin. In 1976 she joined Valdy's back-up band, which went on to become the Juno Award-winning Hometown Band. Her subsequent solo career also marked the beginning of her life as a songwriter, winning her another Juno Award in 1981 and a SOCAN Award for She Remembers. Over the years Shari has also expanded into television hosting, songwriting education, and composing for film and television. Everywhere I Go, Sharis eighth solo album (and 23rd including her work with UHF, BTU and the High Bar Gang), garnered her the 2014 CFMA Songwriter of the Year Award. She recently released Tightrope Walk with Bentall Taylor Ulrich and will be releasing the 2nd High Bar Gang album on June 24th. She has produced Bluebird North since 1996. www.shariulrich.com
