Filling the Pantry: Generating Ideas and Mining For Material in Personal Storytelling (June 2016)
One of the most frequent complaints of newer storytellers is that they "have no stories," or "don't know what to talk/write about." This obstacle is understandable. How can you cook a meal if you don't take the time to gather some groceries first?
In this intensive 3-hour workshop, we will generate material for personal stories through exercises, paired telling, and work with unique prompts. We will also discuss and experiment with strategies and practices, including those of master storytellers, for continuing to mine for material on your own after our time together ends.
If you commit fully to the session, you will leave the workshop with the inspiration for at least a dozen potential new stories and a plan for generating material in the future.
No experience is necessary, and this workshop will be useful to the complete newbie as well as the more seasoned teller.
As with all classes in this series, a safe, encouraging environment will be provided, where confidentiality, individual goals, and varying comfort levels are fully respected.
