American Contemporary Ballet: DANCE+DESIGN II/MUSIC+DANCE:LA I The Evolution of Ballet in Six Pas de Deux
Thursday, June 16 - 8 pm* Friday, June 17 - 8 pm Saturday, June 18 - 6 pm & 8 pm Sunday, June 19 - 2 pm & 4 pm
Everyone dances. Ballet is simply dancing which is designed to be seen, in which the complexity and scope have been expanded to create the possibility of profound expression.
That expansion can be literally seen through the succession of the the seminal works of ballets history. This program will offer you that opportunity to do that in less than an hour.
ACB Artistic Director Lincoln Jones will begin by guiding the audience through the important developments represented in each new dance. This is followed by a performance of six pas de deux which span a 400 year history, from Renaissance choreography which had barely departed from simple social dance steps, to the pas de deux from George Balanchines unsurpassed 20th century masterpiece, Agon.
"Lincoln Jones made the most complex issues seem like childs play in a beguiling Dance and Design..." -Los Angeles Times
