Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF By Tennessee Williams January 26 - Feb 24, 2013
With its scintillating new interpretation of Tennessee Williams's Pulitzer Prize-winning play CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, African-Ameican Shakespeare Company demonstrates that its mission of presenting classic work is not limited solely to The Bard. In this American classic, Williams investigates the desperate lengths to which people will go to protect themselves and their loved one. Maggie is a young Southern wife doing everything she can to save a marriage haunted by ghosts of the past while her husband, Brick, a one-time football star, mourns lost chances and a life spent with a woman he can't bring himself to touch. As Maggie and Brick join the rest of the Pollitts to celebrate patriarch Big Daddy's birthday, a series of explosive secrets, lies, schemes and betrayals reveal the true nature of this Southern aristocratic family. One of Williams's best-known works, and one of his favorite plays, CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF originally opened on Broadway in 1955 under the direction of Elia Kazan; the play was made into a classic film starring Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman, and was recently revived on Broadway featuring an all-black cast.
