These floods have etched the physical topography of our region into our landscape. Naturalist Jack Nisbet will lead this informational bus tour and will focus on the structural landscape of the Inland Northwest and the spectacular rock outcroppings. Participants will also gain insight into the theories surrounding the great Missoula floods and the impact on the local environment. Transportation is provided by Inland Empire Bus Tours.
Deep Creek Preserve, Devils Gap and Deep Creek Canyon Deep Creek Canyon is a unique geologic area within Riverside State Park. Despite being small, the area is packed with surprises. Home to basalt rock at the mouth of Deep Creek, there is also a carpeted, moss-draped forest, and a sparse ponderosa pine forest, while many wildflowers and wildlife also thrive in the area. The view from Pine Bluff, located nearby, is absolutely breathtaking. Another highlight of the area is Devils Gap, which is home to numerous types of wildlife, including songbirds and mule deer, and is situated between Little Falls and Corkscrew Canyon. Experience firsthand the prominent effects of the floods that occurred there thousands of years ago.
