Starlite Cinemas Indie Film Showcase!
On May 20 and 21, Starlite Cinemas in Rochester, NH is hosting a showcase of features and short films by local and independent filmmakers. Our eclectic lineup includes documentaries, comedies, dramas, sci-fi and horror movies. Tickets are available for each feature, as well as a limited number of weekend passes that are good for admission to all of the weekend's screenings. Descriptions for each feature are below. Presented by Bang! Films.



FRIDAY, MAY 20

6:00pm & 8:30pm - FOOD FIGHT: INSIDE THE BATTLE FOR MARKET BASKET

In the summer of 2014, a firestorm within a New England supermarket chain sparked a corporate drama that Esquire called "the last stand for the middle class". Food Fight is the story of the battle to save Market Basket, and about the power of ordinary, passionate people to rewrite corporate history. (2016, 1 hour 50 minutes, d: Jay Childs)

Join us for brunch and a program of four funny, offbeat and moving short films! A Q&A with some of the filmmakers will follow the screening.

FRONTIER - A journalist investigates a secretive government facility being built deep in the north woods of Maine. While there, she meets a conspiracy theorist who is convinced the facility is a front for something far more sinister. She brushes him off, until some compelling evidence begins to surface. UNIVERSAL ADAPTER BLUES - All Marvin Weeks wanted was his collection of junk and his girlfriend back. What he got was a chance encounter with a strange woman claiming to be a robot time traveler from the future. But years later fate and coincidence would show him the true nature of the strings pulled behind that fateful meeting. (2015, 31 minutes, d: Thomas Matthew Campbell)

REST IN PEACE, ALBERT LIVELY - Maggie Miller travels with her ex, Paul Santy, to the funeral of Albert Lively, an old friend who may or may not be actually dead. Along the way thoughts of their childhood bring Maggie and Paul closer, but ultimately she must face the truth about Paul, about Albert, and about herself. (2014, 20 minutes, d: Jack Garrett)

THE LAST AMERICAN MOVIE - In 1985 Los Angeles, a teenage girl's boring summer is interrupted by the arrival of a mysterious visitor. (2015, 33 minutes, d: EJ Lee and Andrew Roussos)

1:00 pm - BREW HAMPSHIRE

An award-winning feature length documentary about the rise of craft beer in the Granite State. Follow a year in the life of the Able Ebenezer Brewing Company, from home brewing in a cabin in the woods to opening a commercial brewery in Merrimack, NH. Hear from 13 breweries, along with retailers, distributors, tour guides, and enthusiasts about how they all play a role in the story of beer in New Hampshire. An ensemble comedy that revolves around the wedding of Kurt and Chloe, a free-spirited couple that, instead of planning a traditional wedding, decide to invite their closest friends to Kurt's family's vacation house in northern New Hampshire for the weekend. Unfolding over the course of the weekend leading up to Chloe and Kurt's nuptials, wine is poured (and other substances are imbibed), old friendships are tested and new relationships begin. 5:45 pm - LEAVE BEHIND A GROOVE IN THE EARTH: THE STORY OF SAM BLACK CHURCH

A documentary about Boston band Sam Black Church, who were at the forefront of innovation in the Hardcore and Metal world of the 1990's. A near miss at being signed to Geffen Records in 1997 caused the band to eventually fold, but their legacy lived on in the music of the next generation of bands like Killswitch Engage, Unearth, and Shadows Fall who conquered the world of international Metal. 7:45 pm - HORROR DOUBLE FEATURE

THE STRAY: A post-apocalyptic tale of survival set in an alternate version of 1966 where nuclear war has destroyed civilization and transformed the world into a mutant infested wasteland. The story follows Tracy Arnold, who struggles to survive all the while he deals with his tortured past and the stray that refuses to let him forget. (2016, 1 hour 30 minutes, d: Cam Clark)

KILLING BROOKE: On the night of her wedding, Brooke Porter finds herself pursued by a vicious psychopath, only to find her night grow worse from there. (2012, 1 hour 13 minutes, d: David Zagorski)
