Valya Balkanska and Petar Yanev (Bagpipe) - The Magic of Bulgarian Folklore from the Rhodope Mountains in Philadelphia
You are cordially invited to celebrate Mother's Day the Bulgarian Way together with one of the most impressive Bulgarian Folk Singers of all times - Valya Balkanska, accompanied with her trusted virtuoso gaida bagpipe player - Petar Yanev. Both from the Rhodope mountains of Bulgaria they will take us on an amazing journey through space and time with some eternal Bulgarian Folk songs.
Valya and Petar will offer a great opportunity to introduce the magic of Bulgarian folklore and our own gaida bagpipe to our children. This will be a nice warm up before the annual Bulgarian Festival at the usual place. You will be able to enjoy traditional Bulgarian food, drinks, draft beer and alcohol as usual.

More info: Legendary Bulgarian singer Valya Balkanska and her incomparable bagpiper for the last 15 years - Petar Yanev will offer a rare afternoon of soulful music from the majestic Rhodope Mountains. They performs a repertoire of over 300 Bulgarian Folklore songs. Born in a hamlet near the village of Arda, Valya is one of the last artists in a generation who grew up singing in a traditional setting. Her recording of the beloved folk ballad Izlel e Delyo Haidutin, recorded by Pacific Northwest's Martin Koenig, was selected by scientist Carl Sagan for inclusion on the Voyager spacecraft launched in 1977. In 2002, the Bulgarian government bestowed upon her the country's highest honor, the Medal Stara Planina. Izlel e Delyo Haidutin was used as the opening song for the Afghanistan documentary, Restrepo.
