Jamie Elman & Eli Batalion, the creators and stars of the award-winning Yiddish comedy web series YidLife Crisis are coming for a night of shtick and schmoozing. Nu?
Their hit YouTube series, YidLife Crisis, is the worlds first Yiddish sitcom for the web, where questions of modern Jewish identity in multicultural society and what it means to be a Jew are explored with a characteristic mix of comedy and inclusiveness. To date, the series has received excellent press and global viewership; over 1,000,000 Youtube video views just over a year, winner of the Best Comedy at the 2015 Toronto Web Fest and nominated for a 2016 Canadian Screen Award, and taken the duo across North America and to Israel, where they have refined their talks into a touring presentation called YidLive!
In the show, the duo of seasoned performers mix skits, discussion and screenings and use the trojan horse of comedy to bring Yiddish and yiddishkayt to the fore and engage the topic of Jewish identity for all. With an inclusive approach that accepts all forms of Jewry and reaches out to the non-Jewish world as well, YidLive! revitalizes the discussion of Jewish identity through a night of comedy and creativity.
"If Seinfeld had taken place in Montreal instead of New York and been in Yiddish instead of English, it would have been YidLife Crisis Its at once funny and profound, and it all sounds better in Yiddish than it ever could in English. A love letter to to Yiddish and secular Judaism."
