"a witty, sharp-eyed and sentimental tribute to a weird and unquestionably distinctive world-class city."Wall Street Journal
"Temple Beautiful is his ambitious paean to the little city by the bay."Blurt

Fresh off a European tour, Chuck Prophet will return to the U.S. in support of Temple Beautiful, his 12th studio album on Yep Roc Records. The 40-city tour kicks off May 11 including stops in Orlando, Lexington, New York City, Philadelphia, Arlington, VA, Nashville, Atlanta, Cleveland. Full list of tour dates is attached.
Paying tribute to the history and weirdness that brought him to the city and inspired by current San Francisco artists, the 12-track album is named for "the punk rock club where I saw my first gigs, in the old Reverend Jim Jones' People's Temple," says Prophet, "Temple Beautiful was made in San Francisco, by San Franciscans about San Francisco."
"When my friend Kurt and I wrote this one," says Chuck, "we fought a loteven more than usual. With how it turned out, clearly we were method acting. We're San Franciscans, where the Mitchell brothers are mother's milkporn kings, free speech advocates, a modern Cain and Abel. One even killed the other. Anyway, the song got written, and it felt epic, cinematic. I found the right guys to make it and we were off to the races."
For the "The Left Hand And The Right Hand" video, directors Albert Birney and Nick Krill add, "it was fun to experiment with conveying emotions and feelings through only gestures of the hand. It was like we were puppeteers without the puppets. The records they flip through are all actual records with either hands or brothers on the cover. We only altered one of them by adding a hand. I filmed my grandfather's hand for the end. I think he finally understands what I do now." To view/embed/share: http://bit.ly/Jbj2tf. Co-written with San Francisco-based poet klipschutz, Prophet entered the studio with James DePrato (guitars), Rusty Miller (bass, vocals) and Prairie Prince (drums, percussion) to record an unsentimental, if love-struck, tour of San Francisco. "My effort to tap into the energy and spontaneity that brought us all here in the first place," says Prophet. The album also features Stephanie Finch (vocals) and guest vocals from Roy Loney, vocalist of legendary Bay Area band The Flamin' Groovies.
