West African Dance & Drum Workshop with Jamal Jackson Dance Company
Choreographer/dancer Jamal Jackson and drummer Frank Malloy IV have taught this popular workshop for three summers at PS21. Participants learn a traditional dance from Mali, explore new ways to create movement within this dance, and present a public performance. As part of the daily activities kids take a cooking class in which they make their own lunches using local food. Students receive free passes to PS21 dance performances. The workshop culminates in a performance on the PS21 stage. This workshop is made possible in part with a grant from the Hudson Valley Foundation for Youth Health.
