VANESSA WILLIAMS: BROADWAY @ THE PAC INAUGURAL SERIES
Mark Cortale proudly presents Tony, Emmy and Grammy Nominated artist VANESSA WILLIAMS (Star of Ugly Betty, Broadway's Into The Woods & Kiss of the Spiderwoman) with SETH RUDETSKY as pianist and host launch the inaugural BROADWAY @ THE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER concert series for one show only on Saturday, July 9th at 8:00PM. Williams will join Rudetsky for an evening of incredible songs and for a revealing and hilarious conversation. She will sing her greatest hits (Save the Best for Last, Sweetest Days, Colors of the Wind) as well as songs from the Broadway shows she has been in like Kiss of the Spiderwoman, Showboat, Into The Woods (Tony Nomination) and Sondheim on Sondheim. The Broadway @ The Performing Arts Center concert series will help raise funds for The Tyler Clementi Foundation.
Vanessa Williams has never done anything halfway. To say she has won critical acclaim as a singer and actress on stage, in film and on television hardly captures everything this talented performer has done. Her albums have earned 17 Grammy nominations, 11 of those for her individually. Her platinum single "Colors of the Wind" from the motion picture Pocahontas won the Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy for Best Original Song from a Motional Picture. On stage she has won rave reviews for her role in Kiss of the Spider Woman as well as a Tony nomination for Best Actress for her performance in the musical Into the Woods.
On television she has been nominated for 4 Emmy awards, including three in a row for her work on the hit series Ugly Betty. She has received both the Lena Horne "Lady of Soul" Award and the International Press Academy's "Mary Pickford Award" for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to the Entertainment Industry. She has received seven NAACP Image Awards, which celebrate the achievements of people of color in the arts and their efforts to promote social justice through their creative endeavors. In 2007, Vanessa achieved a career pinnacle, with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her accomplishments as a performer.
Vanessa has done all this, and more, while balancing her career as a proud mother of 4. The issues she encounters as a working mother are what drive her to use her talent and fame to support causes that benefit women, men and children.
She received the Human Rights Campaign "Ally for Equality" Award for Humanitarian Contributions and has been a strong advocate for equal rights especially concerning the gay community and minorities.
