This excursion includes a comfortable walk in one of the areas most beautiful and easily accessible natural areas, where you will learn how to search out edible mushrooms and berries to take home with you!
Join us for a mushroom forage hike through the Liberty Lake area with local mushroom and wild edible expert, Rich Leon. The estimated five-mile walk will strike out at a leisurely pace and will take in the spring sprouting of different varieties of mushrooms and wild edibles, as well as pass through a grove of Cedar trees. For those who are up for a greater challenge, participants may continue on an advanced hike, up to the waterfalls that grace Liberty Lake in the spring. This additional trek will increase the distance of the hike to a total of ten miles. The extra mileage will be worth it, as an awe-inspiring view will greet those who break off from the mushroom forage to take in the beauty of the spring season waterfalls.
Liberty Lake is home to Wood Ear and the elusive Morels Mushrooms. Wild edibles, such as service-berries, wild strawberries and arrow leaf balsamroot, will also be part of this walk. (Please note: never eat anything found on a hike, without first confirming that it is safe to do!)
