Vancouver Co-op Radio's Annual Birthday Bash with Red Herring and Viper Central
Co-op Radio invites you to join us in celebrating the station's 41st birthday!
Co-op Radio CFRO took to the airwaves in April 1975 and is still going strong as Vancouver's only independent, alternative, non-commercial, co-operative community radio.
The evening will begin with an Open Mic at 8 pm -- programmers, members, and listeners welcome to sign up.
Vancouver Bluegrass band Viper Central will then rosin up their bows and tune up their strings to "make your heart soar, your feet shuffle and your blood curdle! "
"Viper Central is a five-piece acoustic string-band that takes that 'high lonesome sound' to new places. All five band members contribute original songs, but won't hesitate to deliver up their take on an ages-old mournful waltz or bring the house down with a barn-burning bluegrass standard..."
Then ... Red Herring! Yes THAT Red Herring from the 80's Vancouver music scene -- back and ready to get you grooving with their arthouse-punk, humorous and profound all at once. Red Herring is led by the melodic voice of songwriter-keyboardist-guitarist Enrico Renz and features Ray Condo/Petunia and the Vipers/Animal Slaves sideman Stephen Nikleva on lead guitar -- one of Vancouver's best. The original rhythm section of Martin Walton and Steve Lazin on bass and drums round out the Herring.
Red Herring has been playing smaller venues for a couple of years, and as big Co-op Radio fans, are excited to make their return to the Wise Hall to help celebrate our 41st Birthday. They know how to have fun, these guys!
The last hour of the night will feature music from CFRO DJs playing reggae and Caribbean music to take us through the midnight hour.
The whole night will be live broadcast 8:15 - midnight on 100.5 FM, online at www.coopradio.org.
All this for only $10!
