When a group of middle school kids enter the White House Science Fair, they are taken on a magical journey beyond their wildest dreams! Shrunken to the size of insects, the students experience the plight of bees first hand when they meet them face to face. Langston, a drone who identifies as a worker bee, introduces the kids to the natural world from the perspective of the most vulnerable species. Experiencing butterflies, bees, flowers, and everything under the sea, profoundly affects the students, bringing to light their role as stewards of the planet.
Featuring 200 kinder-5th graders, This American Hive is an original musical developed through improvisations and writing exercises with the lead actors. Tackling issues of identity, privilege, and the environment, this hilarious and timely production will make you think, and leave a song in your heart.
*Special audio cameo by Ira Glass!*
