John McCutcheon in Concert
John McCutcheon and Special Guest, Sam Gleaves!
$25 General Admission

Join us for this special concert held in the historic Union Church in Berea, the arts and crafts capital of Kentucky. This concert promises to be an extraordinary performance by one of America's most talented artists! John has also invited rising star Sam Gleaves to be his special guest.

From inauspicious beginnings, John McCutcheon has emerged as one of our most respected and loved folksingers. As an instrumentalist, he is a master of a dozen different traditional instruments, most notably the rare and beautiful hammer dulcimer. His songwriting has been hailed by critics and singers around the globe. His thirty recordings have garnered every imaginable honor including seven Grammy nominations. He has produced over twenty albums of other artists, from traditional fiddlers to contemporary singer-songwriters to educational and documentary works. His books and instructional materials have introduced budding players to the joys of their own musicality. And his commitment to grass roots political organizations has put him on the front lines of many of the issues important to communities and workers.

Born and raised in Wytheville, Virginia, Sam Gleaves performs innovative mountain music with a sense of history.  Sam carries on the ballads, dance music and storytelling he learned from numerous mentors in the Appalachian tradition and writes poignant new songs that tell the regions contemporary stories. Sams debut record of original songs, titled AINT WE BROTHERS, is produced by Cathy Fink and has been featured by National Public Radio, No Depression, and The Bluegrass Situation. In the U.S., Sam has performed extensively in the Appalachian region and beyond, playing venues such as Mountain Stage and the Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour, and he has toured in Ireland, Japan, England and Canada. Appalachian novelist Lee Smith has heralded Sam as the best young songwriter around . . . courageous as hell and country to the bone. For more information, please visit www.samgleaves.com. Hear Sam perform an original song, "Working Shoes." (https://youtu.be/DBXlGEyY6zw)

A very limited number of VIP tickets will bring you special seating, a CD signed by the artist, and an exclusive photo opportunity at an after-concert reception with the performers.

"John McCutcheon is not only one of the best musicians in the USA, but also a great singer, songwriter, and song leader. And not just incidentally, he is committed to helping hard-working people everywhere to organize and push this world in a better direction."   Pete Seeger
