SOLO SUNDAYS - SF STATE Collaboration May 1, 2016
SOLO SUNDAYS, San Francisco's premier showcase, presents select samplings of veteran virtuosos and top emerging talent in the intimate Stage Werx theater. Beyond stand-up and storytelling, solo theater creates casts of thousands - plus special effects - all bursting from a single performer. The results are hilarious and heartbreaking, passionate and provocative, ablaze with personal visions. All the performers on this show are students or faculty members at San Francisco State.

NOTE: INFANTS ARE NOT PERMITTED IN THE THEATER

"Queerdo! That Fabulous Mime"

Queerdo dances out of the closet only to get stuck in a box. Making their first West Coast appearance, this wacky tacky mime left their home in a Midwest cabaret to seek love by the Bay.Will Queerdo be able to walk the tightrope of romance or fall from Paradise?  You will not want to miss this amazing death defying feat. A mime is a terrible thing to waste.

"The Truth Will Set You FreeTo Lie"

Growing up in a household where you had to tell the truth, Abas was very honest and direct. But as an adult, he learned that the truth was meaningless. To tell you the truth was just something you said when you don't want to help your cousin move out of his apartment. See Abas quickly learns that to be a successful student and friend, he needs to face the truth about lying: its the best!

"Mail Ordered Lies"

Lindsey is an adjunct professor and if she had a penny for every time a student asked a question to which the response was Of course its in the goddamn syllabus she would probably be able to buy organic produce. You've heard of the saying don't let one bad apple ruin the bunch, well she's got news for you, its really really hard not too. How do you maintain professionalism when you want to tell a student to go fuck themselves?

"I Eat What I Like"

When a grown woman cannot decide whether she wants a slice of pizza or not, that says a lot about her world, within and without. But, in an era where information is everywhere, surely making big decisions like deciding whether one is hungry or not should be a piece of cake! Who would have guessed that the struggle to choose an item on the pizzeria menu can reveal so much about the daily struggle to find and act on one's voice.

"Frozen Corpulence"

Can I be sexy without long hair? Miranda asks herself this as she attempts to crawl across the floor during a burlesque class where no other fat bodies are present. Between this and allowing (hot) people to plaster across her cellulite, what has she gotten herself into and how can she break out?

"Of Guts and Gaydar"

If you are a single, heterosexual mid-30s female in San Francisco who hasn't had a boyfriend since the first Clinton ran for President, how do you go about making a baby? Start with ingredients like your own set of closeted 1980s lesbian parents, a college pen-pal, and Dr. Ruth's Guide to Good Sex. Stir in a tablespoon of Irish sailor and salt from a storm. Then, once you find your guts and use your gaydar, you might have everything you need to make a modern family.

"Maybe Thats Not What She Said"

Do you know what dress this is? Of course you don't. Why would you? You aren't the one trying to sift through the pile of clothes on Sage's floor that threatens to make her relive every pick up line, butterfly, sweaty palm, forced smile, and strategic apology whenever she gets dressed. No one said studying flirtation was going to be easy.
