"Celebration" Concert - Palo Alto
For our 10th anniversary, the San Francisco Mandolin Orchestra plays a selection of classical celebratory music. A Vivaldi cantata (Qual in pioggia dorata) and two arias (Juditha Triumphans' "Transit Aetas" and La Sena festeggiante's "Vaga Perla") will feature our good friend, contralto singer Twila Ehmcke. Conductor Achille Bocus will take up the mandolin to play Concerto per mandolino e strumenti by Paolo Altieri, an Italian composer at the beginning of the 19th century. Finally, we will play the popular 29th Symphony by Mozart.
The San Francisco Mandolin Orchestra is an orchestra of instruments in the mandolin family: mandolin, mandola, octave mandolin, and mandocello, in addition to guitar and double bass. The group formed in 2005, and our repertoire focuses on a new theme each season, with seasons lasting four to six months.
