SIGNING ON THE DOTTED LINE: CONTRACT LAW FUNDAMENTALS FOR ARTISTS
Whether you are you're putting together a band with a handshake or working on a commissioned piece by a Fortune 500 company governed by a 47-page agreement, contract law plays a key role in any business transaction undertaken by artists. In Signing on the Dotted Line: Contract Law Fundamentals for Artists, business and intellectual property attorney Evan Shapiro will take you through a wide array of legal issues involved in negotiating and closing successful contracts, including formation, enforcement, and fundamental terms that apply to business transactions of all sizes. An overarching theme of the discussion will involve the interaction of intellectual property and contract law. If you are an artist, creative entrepreneur or an attorney who represents them as clients, this Workshop is not to be missed as it will provide an excellent fundamental framework for understanding how to recognize and resolve the legal issues involved with setting up and operating a creative business.
Evan Shapiro, an associate attorney at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, focuses his practice in the areas of commercial and technology transactions, including software licensing, social networking, digital media, user-generated content, website privacy policies and terms of use, and design and development projects, including joint development, proprietary and open source projects.
