25: The Lisa Leizman Dance 25th Anniversary Dance Concert
No, it's not an Adele CD release party... it's the 25th Anniversary of the Lisa Leizman Dance Company presented by the Northampton Center for the Arts at the Shea Theater. The public is invited to join the celebration at Turners Falls' historic and newly renovated venue, where the Center for Arts, acting a fiscal sponsor for the Shea, presents one of its own resident companies for the first time. For this special occasion, Leizman has chosen a program of works old and new to celebrate 25 years of dancing together. Enjoy audience favorites "All Blues", set to the classic Miles Davis tune, "Down a Country Lane" with music by Aaron Copland and "some bird, perhaps" with music by Arvo Part. The anniversary concert also features new works: "sentient being on this beautiful planet" (music by Cecile Schott) and the first full performance of "Instructions for When There's a Mountain", written by company composer-in-residence Andrea Kwapien. Inspired by her travels to Southeast Asia, Kwapien's score shimmers with the sounds of bells, bowls, kalimba and flute.
Following a decades-long tradition, the company invites the audience to linger after the concert for a bonus treat... a festive reception with a buffet dinner prepared by the dancers!
