Kris Kings passion for bassoon has taken him around the United States. Originally from Ventura, California; Kris growth as a musician has been straight forward even though his final instrument came later. Starting on low brass, he participated in honor bands and All-state orchestras through-out middle school and high school. Making the switch to bassoon in late high school provided him with a more serious outlet for his music. Out of high school, he attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music receiving his bachelor degree. He studied under the Principal bassoonist of the San Francisco Symphony, Stephen Paulson. The next year he returned to study contrabassoon with Steve Braunstein.
With Paulsons help, Kris sound matured and allowed him to take gigs in the area. Kris has since played with the Prometheus Orchestra, Ensemble Parallel, Theater Comique Opera, Monterey Opera, Hidden Valley Opera Orchestra, Symphony of the Vines, and the San Luis Obispo Symphony. He has studied with the bassoonists: Stephen Paulson, Steve Dibner, Greg Barber, Andrew Radford and Lisa Nauful. He has taught at UC Berkeleys Young Musicians Program for three years now and has a full studio.
Kris currently takes auditions through the United States, with recent auditions being with the: San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera, Reno Chamber orchestra, and Chicago Symphony.
