About the Performers:
Milky Way or Galaxy are traditional Korean translations of the first name of flutist Meerenai Shim. Pronounced me-ren-ay, the unusual name befits this unique and forward thinking musician.

Meerenai has performed all over the United States as a soloist and chamber musician. Recent performances include those at the Bang on a Can Summer Festival, the Goat Farm Arts Center in Atlanta, and the National Flute Associations Annual Conventions in Las Vegas and New Orleans. In addition to regular broadcast of her recordings on classical radio stations, Meerenai's recordings and performances have been featured on Music from Other Minds, Live from WFMT, and New Music Box. She founded the flute and percussion group, A/B Duo, with percussionist Chris Jones in 2012 and is a member of The Mineral Kingdom, a chiptune/folk/doom/jazz band led by Matthew Joseph Payne.

In 2015 Meerenai founded Aerocade Music, a record label specializing in contemporary classical, electronic, and experimental music. Her third solo album, Pheromone, was released through Aerocade and features works by Gregory C. Brown, Eli Fieldsteel, Douglas Laustsen, Emma O'Halloran, Matthew Joseph Payne, and Isaac Schankler.

Meerenai Shim is an affiliate of, and fiscally-sponsored by, the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the service of chamber music in California. She also serves as a curator at the Center for New Music in San Francisco. She resides in Campbell, California with her husband Dave, and their Great Dane mix, Lady.

Kris Kings passion for bassoon has taken him around the United States. Originally from Ventura, California; Kris growth as a musician has been straight forward even though his final instrument came later. Starting on low brass, he participated in honor bands and All-state orchestras through-out middle school and high school. Making the switch to bassoon in late high school provided him with a more serious outlet for his music. Out of high school, he attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music receiving his bachelor degree. He studied under the Principal bassoonist of the San Francisco Symphony, Stephen Paulson. The next year he returned to study contrabassoon with Steve Braunstein.

With Paulsons help, Kris sound matured and allowed him to take gigs in the area. Kris has since played with the Prometheus Orchestra, Ensemble Parallel, Theater Comique Opera, Monterey Opera, Hidden Valley Opera Orchestra, Symphony of the Vines, and the San Luis Obispo Symphony. He has studied with the bassoonists: Stephen Paulson, Steve Dibner, Greg Barber, Andrew Radford and Lisa Nauful. He has taught at UC Berkeleys Young Musicians Program for three years now and has a full studio.

Kris currently takes auditions through the United States, with recent auditions being with the: San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera, Reno Chamber orchestra, and Chicago Symphony.
