GENIASS PRESENTS: Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band & The Dead Kenny G's
YO MAMA"S BIG FAT BOOTY BAND
It began as a party, grew into a band, evolved into a sound, and emerged as an institution. Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band (aka the Booty Band) has gone through many changes since their fated onset in 2002. Today they are ready to shake the world, one cheek at a time.
The Booty Band is currently enjoying their tenth year of touring, performing well over 150 shows and completing three to four national tours every year. With a new album in the works at Echo Mountain Studios (projected release date: March 2013), a remix album debuting this July, and Spring/Summer tour in full swing, the group shows no sign of slowing down any time soon. The remix album will feature some of the band's favorite DJ's including Agent 23 (GFE and 23 Skidoo), DJ leSpam (Spam Allstars), and Lee "InstaFunk" Allen (Booty Band and Eymarel) adding their unique perpectives to select tracks from Doin' It Hard.
Doin' It Hard, their sophomore studio release, is a reection of the Booty Band's approach to music, touring, performing, recording, and to life in general. Recorded at City of Progress Studios in Miami, FL under the cultivated ear of DJ leSpam, Doin' It Hard is Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band next-generation, redened for a new decade. Doin' It Hard hit the streets on March 27th 2012 release and is available on 12" vinyl, compact disc, and digital download from all of your favorite online providers.
Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band is: Lee Allen (drums), Mary Frances (keys, vocals), Greg Hollowell (saxophones, ute), Derrick Johnson (trombone), Al Al Ingram (bass, vocals), and JP Miller (guitar, vocals).
THE DEAD KENNY G's
The Dead Kenny Gs have made their punk rock masterpiece. A 17-minute EP entitled Gorelick. Not one more second is needed as the DKGs slash and burn their way through six tracks, including originals like "Beer," "Daddy Issues" and "Punk Rock Girlfriend," plus a bruising rendition of their namesake The Dead Kennedys' "Kill The Poor." Gorelick will be released on vinyl as a limited pressing with only 500 copies being issued, after which the recording will be available solely as a digital download. The combustible punk jazz trio featuring saxophonist Skerik, bassist Brad Houser and vocalist/vibraphonist/drummer Mike Dillon have garnered a fanatical cult fan-base over years of incessant touring and critical praise, as well as through related projects like Garage A Trois, Critters Buggin and Mike Dillon's Go-Go Jungle.
"Given its play-on-words moniker that simultaneously drives a sock down the mouth of smooth-jazz king Kenny G and recalls the early '80s hardcore-punk band The Dead Kennedys, the powerhouse trio taps into a sound that fuses jazz and punk. It's a crazy mix played intensely by a group that has the skill and knowledge to pull it off." Alarm Magazine
"Dead Kenny Gs is a definitive statement of purpose: a resolute denunciation of all-things artificial. Skerik and his compatriots use their un-compromised art to draw an aesthetic line in the sand at the expense of crass commercialization that contaminates our art, our food, and what passes for our political discourse. It's fun, fearless, and, if you are the ass-shaking type, you can get down accordingly." Popmatters
