Long Beach Pride Month Salute - CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC: Disco Cocktail Mixer and Screening Party
Feel our Saturday night fever as The Filmmakers' Gallery continues to salute Long Beach Pride month on Sautrday, May 14th from 7-10PM as we present one of the hottest 80's disco cult films of its time, "CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC"! Special guest and friend, **Bob Esty(Renowned Singer/Music Composer & Producer) is back again and this time it's for our very special pre-Pride weekend screening of "CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC" starring Steve Gutenberg, Bruce Jenner and Valerie Perrine. Bob's most recent visit to The Filmmakers' Gallery last November was to introduce the final of the three films we screened to his trilogy as a producer/composer and singer of his most popular classic 1970's films, "THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY" which included Donna Summer's "LAST DANCE" winning The Academy Award in 1978, which Bob co-wrote with Paul Jabara. Back in August of 2015 we felt the summer fever with Bob when we screened the newly released Blu-ray version of "ROLLER BOOGIE" starring Linda Blair and James Bray. Then later in September things got into Fall training when we brought Bob back for "THE MAIN EVENT" and had him tell us all about training Streisand in the "reel" ring! Now, Bob will be returning for his final time this season for the conclusion presentation to his three disco-era themed films when we bring to you, 'THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY"!
"CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC" Storyline -
In this pseudo audio biography of the Village People, Jack Morell (a thinly disguised caricature of the group's founder, Jacques Morali) is a struggling composer desperate to gain fame with his songs, but all he needs is a group to sing them. With the help of his roommate Samantha and a lawyer named Ron, Jack forms a group of six "macho men" from his Greenwich Village neighborhood, and the rest of the film details their rise to fame from New York City to a climatic concert in San Francisco.
