Headliner: Blayr Nias
Blayr Nias is not your average female comic. She lives by the credo "If you can't be a good example, then you'll have to be a horrible warning." When she hits the stage it's with manic energy, high octane humor, and her trademark mega-watt smile giving her the nickname "GummyBlayr". Winning audiences over across the country with a dynamic stage presence, she shares tales of her misadventures as 'the bad girl next door'. This Massachusetts native graduated from the George Washington University with a degree in Theater and Creative Writing. In 2012, she was featured in the Pink Collar Comedy Tour at the Piccolo Spoletto Festival in Charleston, SC and performed in the Laugh Your Asheville Off Festival in Asheville, NC headlined by Jim Gaffigan. She was a featured artist in the Charlotte Video Project, a collection of short films about the culture of the city. In September 2013 Blayr was named a finalist in Comedy Central's Up Next Comedy Competition. In May 2014 she was named "Best Comedian" by Charlotte Magazine in their Best of the Best Awards issue. That summer she performed on the Oddball Comedy Festival headlined by Aziz Ansari and Louis C.K. She made her network television debut in the fall on the new hit Fox show "Laughs." She has worked with many hilarious comics such as Jim Norton, Ralphie May, Tom Green, and DL Hughley. She has lived in the South for the past 10 years giving her a unique blend of Northern Aggression and Southern Charm.
Features: Tom Scheve
Tom Scheve (Asheville, NC) got his start in stand-up comedy at a notorious open mic called Tomato Tuesdays, in which comedians performed next to a large gong while rowdy audience members threw foam tomatoes (or cigarette lighters) at the comedians and, occasionally, the gong. Tom then spent several years refining his act performing weekly at the world-famous Omni Grove Park Inn Resort for guests from all over the world. Tom has performed at the Laugh Your Asheville Off comedy festival, Cape Fear Comedy Festival, Scruffy City Comedy Festival and was a finalist in the 2013 Rocky Top Comedy Competition, and is regularly a featured performer at shows around the region. He has performed in comedy clubs, theaters, resorts, residential mental health facilities, dive bars, and strip clubs, as well as for church groups, children, recovering drug addicts and active drug addicts. Tom produces Asheville Disclaimer, an award-winning, weekly satirical feature in the alt-weekly Mountain Xpress.
Art Sturtevant
Art's a smart, funny comic with the interests of a 20-year old and the body of a middle-age man. His observations on pop culture, being a father, and how you can change so much and so little over the span of decades have cracked up audiences all over the East Coast.
Art Sturtevant has performed at Laughing Skull, Comedy Zones, Side Splitters, The Laugh Your Asheville Off Comedy Festival, and -- back in the day -- NYC's Comedy Cellar, Catch a Rising Star, Sweeps and Triple Inn. Art's a contributing writer for Asheville Disclaimer, a weekly satire publication.
Host: Sam King
