'When in Rome' starring Lua Hadar with Twist
International vocalist Lua Hadar and her jazz trio perform Italian and American jukebox hits from the 1950s through the 80s in their new show, 'When in Rome.' Produced by New Performance Group and The Italian Cultural Institute at the Institute's new Opera Plaza location (San Francisco Civic Center) the show features popular Italian and American tunes by Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota, Luigi Tenco, Henry Mancini, Domenico Modugno and more, including such favorites as Arrivederci Roma, Al di là, Volare and of course When in Rome.
Lua has been an Italophile since she can remember, living in Italy several years while touring as a performer, becoming fluent in the language and falling in love with all things Italian. In January 2015, Lua was invited with Twist's Music Director Jason Martineau to create the live musical backdrop for La Dolce Vita, a benefit for San Francisco Symphony. The warm reception she received inspired her to mold the jukebox hit set list into 'When in Rome,' adding some new arrangements and a handful of the humorous and heartfelt stories that are the hallmark of this vibrant performer and her band Twist.
