The Bryan Sutton Bluegrass Band with opening act The New Ballard's Branch Bogtrotters at The Blue Ridge Music Center
A night of traditional and contemporary bluegrass featuring guitar wonderkind Bryan Sutton and his Bluegrass Band and fiddle wiz Eddie Bond & The New Ballard's Branch Bogrotters.
Born in Asheville, North Carolina, Bryan Sutton grew up in a musical family and was immersed in the rich heritage of Western North Carolina music. He entered the bluegrass world in 1995 as a member of Ricky Skaggs band, Kentucky Thunder, playing on two Grammy award winning records. Sutton went on to build a career as a top studio guitarist in Nashville, collaborating with Keith Urban, Dolly Parton, Taylor Swift, and Harry Connick Jr. Always striving to keep his bluegrass roots strong, Sutton has released four solo projects and has toured around the world with fellow bluegrass artists, including Bela Fleck and Chris Thile, and as a member of the legendary bluegrass band Hot Rize. Sutton is a six-time winner of the IBMAs Guitarist of the Year award, and received a Grammy in 2007 for Best Country Instrumental Performance for his duet recording with Doc Watson.

About 25 years ago a group of talented musicians from the Galax, Virginia, area formed The New Ballards Branch Bogtrotters, taking their name, in part, from the original Bogtrotters of the 1930s. The original group was named the best band at the first Old Fiddlers Convention in 1935, setting the stage for all that followed in their footsteps. The New Ballards Branch Bogtrotters carry on the traditional Appalachian string-band style often playing for square dances across the region. The Bogtrotters lineup is Dennis Hall (guitar), Eddie Bond (fiddle and vocals), Josh Ellis (banjo), Jesse Morris (bass), and Leon Frost (mandolin).
