Gunnar and the Grizzly Boys
Gunnar & The Grizzly Boys are Standard Americans.

There is no experience as true to homegrown American North Country music as a Gunnar & the Grizzly Boys show. Their electrifying sound hits you like your favorite shot; the words shine through like your best friend telling you a story you just might believe, or a good time you just must have. The sheer energy brought by the Grizzlys live, explodes into the audience like a dose of adrenalin.

Gunnar Nybald, who still farms the family apple, peach and plum orchards hes been working all his life, writes the bands songs from the seat of a tractor.

While attending Michigan State University in the agricultural program, Gunnar met lead guitarist Shane Grehan (Alpena, MI). Shane introduced Gunnar to fellow Spartys, drummer Joe Connolly (Rochester Hills, MI) and keyboard/guitarist Chris Newberg (Rockford, MI). Gunnar introduced them to his hometown pals, Rob Mason (bass, harmony vocals), who he had been in a punk band that did mission work in high school, and songwriter Joe Rood, who left the band in the summer of 2014.

GGB played their first show opening a sold out Justin Moore show in 2010 at The Intersection, which has become the Grizzlys Grand Rapids home field! Since then they won WBCT B93s Honky Tonk Heroes contest and played the main stage of WYCDs Detroit Downtown Hoedown the last two years. Theyve played both years of Faster Horses, drawing a strong and eager following, while also opening shows for Florida Georgia Line, Colt Ford, Brantley Gilbert, Kid Rock and David Allen Coe, among others.

Producer Noah Gordon (Colt Ford/The Lacs) went to work on six songs for the band in the winter of 2014, first and foremost, Standard American for the popular Average Joes Mud Digger 5. The song, which describes the people who are the backbone of America, is an anthem. When it got played on SiriusXMs The Highways On The Horizon show, it garnered a strong and steady response.

The band is eager to finish the recordings. On July 23, 2010 GGB released their 12-song debut independent Homegrown album. They followed it with a 1-take live 5-song ep Country My Whole Life, featuring a number of fan favorites. GGB recorded Could Be Me in Nashville with producer Ken Coomer (Will Hoge), former drummer of Uncle Tupelo and Wilco, and rerecorded Sweet Tea and Guns in late 2012.

Combining country and rock, Gunnar & the Grizzly Boys provide a dose of country music steeped in a Michigan root, as Gunnar often describes the Grizzlys music. They transform from an outlaw telling the tale of his horseback journey across America in Sweet Tea, to the bands mission statement, Old Microphone, to lifestyle events, Guns, to standard American happenings. These five young men may be finding their way in the world, but they have truly mastered the art of entertaining their fans in a way that lifts them in their boots, both emotionally and physically!
