The Lemon Hammer with MacClain & Cole
The Lemon Hammer is a sweet and sour mash-up that goes well with most drinks. They spin stories that span rind bitterness to floral bloom sweet, while the sound is ripe with sticky rhythms, searing leads, and a soul stirring delivery. While its members have been known to say, Genre is for suckers, the Lemon Hammer is growing somewhere on the rock tree, between the folk and blues branches, with leaves of soul, pop, and singer-songwriter shading it.
Alexis Harte is a critically acclaimed singer-songwriter and guitarist. With The Lemon Hammer he coaxes delicious yet gritty electric guitar lines from his fingers, squeezes his delicate rasp on top of the music, and shares his gift of song craftsmanship. Fergus Lenehan provides the hammer in the 35 Hertz range, with his 4 and 5 string basses. He also gives good stage face. Damond Moodie both attacks and caresses the microphone. He also writes songs, and claws out rhythm on acoustic guitar; Aaron Brinkerhoff holds it all down on the stand-up cocktail drum kit, while somehow wailing on the harmonica, singing the high part, and contributing songs.
The members of the Lemon Hammer have been around the local music scene for years. Bassist Ferg Lenehan came to the Bay Area from Ireland in the mid-90s, and Damond Moodie immigrated from Cleveland. The Berkeley band was born in January 2012, and their second EP, Made in a House, came out last month.
