As the popularity of backyard chickens grows, more folks are wondering how to butcher older birds, the surprise rooster, or exploring how tochoose breeds that are dual purpose for meat and eggs. Join Soil Sisters LeAnn Powers of Lucky Dog Farm and Carrie Jones for a detailed tour of the meatbird barn and pasture.
Lucky Dog Farm raises chicken for Cow & Quince restaurant and direct sale to consumers. Carrie butchers on farm for the family'spersonal use. This workshop will include a butchering demonstration and taste samplings of two different breeds of pastured meat chickens. Older children(ages 12 and over) welcome with ticketed adult and own paid ticket (for the child).
About Lucky Dog Farm:
Lucky Dog Farm is both a working farm and bed and breakfast. The farm raises goats, pigs and chickens for meat, selling directly to consumers as well as small scale wholesale. All the animals are on pasture, fed organic grain, and raised using sustainable and humane practices.
