Global Harmony Presents A chamber chorus committed to the accomplished presentation of the rich and varied art of a cappella choral music
Spring Concert 2016 Motion
Soar with Sacred & Profane as they sing songs of birds, insects, and all things that take to the sky.
The program will feature classic songs of flight such as Janequins Le Chant des Oiseaux, Gibbons The Silver Swan, and Stanfords The Blue Bird, as well as works by Monteverdi, Mendelssohn, and Hindemith.
In the contemporary vein, they will present Sami Joik, a piece written by Jan Sandström in the style of the folk music of Lapland, as well as Eric Whitacres thrilling Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine and other fanciful works. About Sacred & Profane
Founded in 1977, Sacred & Profane is a chamber chorus that performs a wide variety of a cappella choral music. Concert repertoire includes sacred and secular works from the middle ages to the contemporary period, drawing from classical, ethnic and folk traditions. Sacred & Profane aims to provide an inspiring and educational experience for audiences and chorus members through innovative programming, intensive preparation and high quality performances.
Director
Dr. Rebecca Petra Naomi Seeman
Rebecca is a member of the faculty at the University of San Francisco, where she teaches voice, music theory, music history, and conducts the University Classical Choral Ensembles. She has held university positions at the University of California, Santa Cruz and the University of Iowa and has directed the chancel choir at San Franciscos Saint Ignatius Church and the Temple Beth El Choir in Aptos.
Rebecca specializes in Swedish choral music, feminist music studies, and contemporary Swedish composer Karin Rehnqvist. She has studied conducting with Nicole Paiement, Timothy Stalter, William Hatcher, and the renowned Swedish conductor Eric Ericson. She holds bachelors and masters degrees from University of California, Santa Cruz and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of Iowa.
